A Glimpse Into The Vault: The Stars Align

All posts by Seamus Conneely.
An escaped Mad Adventurer on the loose.
After playing tabletop RPGs for more than a decade and a half and GMing for most of that I turned my hand towards writing for/about them.
I got my start with the Gaming Security Agency, and then joined the Mad Adventurers Society for a few years before setting up CHG.
I”ve been fortunate enough to publish adventure materials for Raging Swan Press and Beer Star Games, and am part of the team for the Transit RPG (Closed Beta out now!).

September 4, 2020 Seamus Conneely Leave a comment The struggle of searching for that one perfect miniature for your tabletop roleplaying game character, or making do with the next best thing, is not nearly the problem it used to be.
3D printing means you can make your own if you have the right tech, and several options have popped up over the years for doing the design and printing work for you.
Rising from the tentacled depths is Eldritch Foundry, a relative newcomer in the field, to share some of their arcane secrets with us – so let’s make some minis and see what prints out.

Meet the Campaign Meet the Campaign: Star Wars: A Rebellion Divided

July 20.

2020 Seamus Conneely Leave a comment The Galactic Empire brings safety

security, prosperity, and progress to every planet that welcomes its care.
or so the story goes, anyways.
On one Outer Rim world, at first that all seemed true: oppressive nobles were overthrown, social mobility increased, and industry flourished.
However, in the mines and the ‘reeducation’ camps the truth of Imperial rule can be found for those brave and/or unfortunate enough to uncover it.
The Rebellion fights here despite the Empire’s good publicity, but what path will the different cells take to freedom.
How will new additions to the base upset the balance.
Check your power packs and calibrate your blaster’s sights, we’re joining up with the rebels of Jumar Base.

June 15, 2020 Seamus Conneely 1 Comment When I stopped updating our first spotlight for Itch.io’s Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality it had slightly more than 1,000 video and tabletop games and had raised about $3 million to be split between the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and Community Bail Fund.
As I write this, less than a week later, the Bundle consists of 1704 items and has raised more than $7 million.
That is, frankly, a staggering effort that shows what a community – one that often exists on the edges of its respective industries and has a larger percentage of marginalized creators – can do when rallied to a good cause.
Millionaires and corporations have sacrificed and given less, and we’d be wise to keep that in mind.
Still, the actual contents of the Bundle is still staggering by itself, and after picking Chalice, For the Honor, and Dragonhearts out of the haystack Maria was good enough to point me towards two more that will be worth your time to check out – whether they’re currently sitting on your dragon’s-hoard-sized bundle of charity or you need one last incentive to pitch in as the Bundle winds down.

Two travelers walk the Grandile Road towards a festival, but they’ll have to contend with the rigors of the journey, mystical occurrences, and mischievous marauders along the way.
Learn along with the players about how to play this RPG by Atsuhiro Okada, often described as “Studio Ghibli’s Oregon Trail”.

Meet the Campaign Meet the Campaign: Star Wars: Wild Space Colony

April 6, .

2020 Seamus Conneely 1 Comment Tired of traveling the same old hyperlanes

Had your fill of fighting off stormtroopers.
Sick of owing credits to the Hutts.
Outer Rim not far enough out for you.
Well, it’s not without risks of its own, but have you ever considered Wild Space.
Find a planet of your very own, start from scratch, no Empire, no Rebels, no syndicates.
It’ll be an entirely new way of life for you out there, so before you start making the astrogation calculations, let me tell you a little about what you might be getting yourself into… Continue reading Meet the Campaign: Star Wars: Wild Space Colony Age of RebellionCampaign SeedEdge of the EmpireForce and DestinyStar Wars A Glimpse Into The Vault, A Glimpse Into The Vault: The Stars Align.

dusk begins to fall, and the stars start to come out.
As true night begins, the star begin to flicker.
and if you’re lucky and have a sharp eye, you just might spot a shooting star.
Sounds like a pretty great night, right.
Well it’s also a pretty great board game, where the first person to spot five shooting stars wins.
This is The Stars Align, designed by Matthew Radcliffe and Sean Fenemore and published by Breaking Games.

March 9, 2020 Seamus Conneely 1 Comment A nefarious Black Dragon has imprisoned six innocent magical creatures deep in its cavernous lair, trapping them with its crystal magic.
You are their only hope: you must explore the caverns, find the creatures, and free them by using the Dragon’s own crystal magic against it.
Along the way you might find treasure to aid you in your efforts, but beware.
Even if you free all of the creatures, you’ll still have to deal with the Black Dragon itself, and it won’t go down without a fight.
Brought to us by Light Heart Games and Zafty Games, this is the single player puzzle and card game of fantastical creatures and crystal magic, Crystallo.
